Daniel Cox
Daniel Cox completed his undergraduate studies at Eastern Washington University in 1989, during which time he studied with former Stan Kenton Orchestra drummer Gary Hobbs, conductor/composer Gunther Schuller, Wynton Marsalis, and jazz drummer Victor Lewis. From 1989–90, Cox performed with the Spokane Symphony while teaching at North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene. In 1992, Cox earned a master’s degree in percussion performance from the University of Miami, having toured Europe with trumpeter Arturo Sandoval the previous October. Cox then moved to Portland, Oregon, where he worked as a freelance musician in both live and studio settings. Back in Spokane since 1995, Cox continues freelance work, contributing to ads for “Ziggy’s, Yeah Ziggy’s”, “Third Rock from the Sun,” “Saturday Night Live,” and ABC’s “TGIF Fridays,” among others. Offering private instruction to aspiring students, Cox also splits his time between Gonzaga University, and North Idaho College.
